Heat exchangers

Heat exchangers are suitable for various applications and mediums – no customer and no branch of industry can afford to leave existing energy unused these days. We support you with your problems in new construction, optimization, supplementation or retrofitting of thermal engineering problems such as waste heat systems, steam boilers, superheaters, economizers, thermal oil systems, hot water systems or air preheaters.

  • Steam boilers: In the field of steam boilers, we specialize in smoke tube boilers (also known as large-capacity boilers) and water tube boilers. Especially in the low and medium output range, smoke tube boilers represent an efficient and cost-effective alternative in line with the latest state of the art. Smoke tube boilers can be supplied with an integrated steam chamber in a housing or with an attached steam drum. To optimize the recovery of energy from flue and combustion gases, such systems can be equipped with steam superheaters and feed water preheaters. In the area of the flue gas inlet and any turning chamber, the boilers can be tamped with refractory concrete.
Water-tube boilers are typically used in the high output range and in the case of impurities such as dust and soot in the flue gas, as the heating surfaces can be easily cleaned mechanically with scrapers or vibrators and pneumatically with soot blowers, even during operation. Systems with water tube boilers can also be optimized in terms of their heat exchanger efficiency using superheaters and economizers.
Typical applications for our waste heat boilers include furnace systems, combustion systems, gas turbines, gas generators, diesel and gas engines or glass tanks.
  • Superheaters: Superheaters are used to superheat saturated steam of certain pressure levels to a higher temperature profile.
  • Economizers: Economiserz (= feed water preheaters) are used to increase the temperature of the boiler feed water at the corresponding pressure level without evaporating the water. A relatively low flue gas temperature and thus residual heat utilization can be sufficient to preheat the water. The overall efficiency of a boiler system can be increased by approx. 5 % by using the economizer, which is also reflected in corresponding fuel savings. In smoke tube boilers, the economizer is a separate module; in water tube boilers, it is often installed as the last pass in a boiler. In this way, the economizer represents a sensible retrofit for an existing boiler system and can be installed for optimization – even retrospectively. The heat exchanger surface can be effectively increased by using finned tubes.
  • Air preheaters: Air preheaters are used to preheat air using various media such as oil, steam, hot water and flue gas (see also “Recuperator”). The preheated air is often used as combustion air; the preheating ensures lower fuel consumption during combustion. The heat exchanger surface can be effectively increased by using finned tubes.
  • Recuperators: From the Latin word recuperare (= to recover), air-to-air and air-to-gas heat exchangers are the most common recuperator problems in the technical sense. We mostly use shell and tube heat exchangers, which are used either in the high-temperature range after combustion chambers as convection recuperators or in the low-temperature range after steam boiler systems for residual heat recovery. Depending on the temperature level, the tubes are bent in an S or Lyra shape to compensate for the corresponding thermal stresses. In addition, swirlers can swirl and accelerate the air in the pipes and thus contribute to increased heat transfer.

Thanks to our many years of experience in the design and manufacture of combustion chambers, we produce burners, pipework and fireplaces to individual specifications.

Combustion chambers

Combustion chambers are used for the combustion of exhaust gases and residue liquids, as a catalytic reaction chamber for oxidation (KATOX) and denoxing (SCR), and as a pyrolysis chamber.

  • Due to our hall equipment and the good connection to the waterway, special dimensions are also not a problem.
  • The combustion chambers can be delivered as pure steel parts, as steel parts with internal components for the later application of internal insulation or lining on-site after delivery, or as fully lined components.
  • The combustion chambers are equipped with all necessary connection nozzles for burners, lances for exhaust gas and liquid injection, sight glass nozzles, nozzles for the required measuring instruments, as well as adequately dimensioned and attached carrying and transport devices.
  • Horizontal combustion chambers are equipped with fixed and sliding bearings.
  • Vertical combustion chambers, whose wall thickness is determined statically, are delivered with suspension devices (clamps) – suitable for hanging in the steel structure.

Cast Composite Fin Tubes

As one of the last German manufacturers of such pipe systems, we specialize in the engineering design, construction, and production of heat exchangers using cast composite fin tubes. Cast fins have proven themselves in heat exchanger systems with corrosive components in the low-temperature range (when falling below the dew point temperature cannot always be avoided, and thus corrosion is expected).

Such pipe systems are also used when heavily dust-laden gases are expected to cause erosion.

Composite fin tubes consist of steel pipes with cast fin sleeves, which are provided with front and rear projections and are firmly pressed together. The composite is created in a largely automated manufacturing process by hydraulically expanding the steel pipes under high pressure, causing the cast sleeves to fit tightly. Various standardized cast composite fin tubes are used – with base pipes ranging from 38 to 57 mm and fins ranging from 87 x 87 mm to 140 x 140 mm. In addition to manufacturing new heat exchangers, the aforementioned composite fin tubes can also be supplied as individual replacement parts in any dimension for existing systems.

Steel Construction

Many years of experience in the manufacturing of load-bearing steel structures and walkable steel structures in the field of thermal engineering plants:

  • Walkable platforms for better accessibility of fittings and instruments on our equipment with operating platforms and access ladders.
  • Complete steel structures including staircases for entire plants (both painted black metals and stainless steels as well as galvanized profiles are processed).
  • At the customer’s request, we work together with a cooperating statics office to develop the design and statics of the steel structure.
  • Steel construction modules can be pre-assembled at our manufacturing facility, inspected and approved by the customer before disassembly into the largest possible shipping units.

Piping

In the manufacturing and installation of pipelines, various carbon steels and stainless steels are processed according to the customer’s requirements and the task at hand.

Fittings and cuttings allow flexible adaptation on-site to local conditions.

If desired, pre-assembly and acceptance of services can also take place at our manufacturing site in Voerde before the pipelines are disassembled into modules and prepared for transport (pre-assembly into the largest possible shipping units is the usual procedure).
Pressure tests and X-ray inspections, as well as other non-destructive tests at our manufacturing plant, are carried out using the latest technology.
